Rent a Cloud Server for n8n

n8n is open-source workflow automation — the self-hostable alternative to Zapier and Make. It connects apps, APIs and databases into automated flows: write leads into your CRM, process invoices, send notifications, sync data between systems. The decisive difference from SaaS automators: with n8n your workflows — and the often sensitive data flowing through them — run on your own server instead of someone else's cloud.

n8n Cloud vs. self-hosting

n8n comes as a hosted cloud and as a self-operated build. The cloud is convenient and maintenance-free — but you pay by plan and executions, and the data lives with the provider. Self-hosting means you handle updates and operations yourself, but you get unlimited executions at a fixed server price and full data ownership. The fair comparison:

To be fair: if you want zero maintenance and have low volumes, the managed n8n Cloud is the more convenient route. But as soon as many executions, sensitive data or cost control come into play, self-hosting wins — a fixed server price does not scale with the number of automations.

Why self-host n8n?

Automations almost always touch sensitive data: customer records, invoices, internal messages, API keys. With GDPR-compliant hosting in Frankfurt that data stays in the EU and under your control — out of reach of the US CLOUD Act. Add to that no artificial per-execution limits, free installation of any community nodes, and the option to pair n8n with your own services such as databases or another Cloud Server on the same private network.

Typical n8n use cases

A self-hosted n8n is the central glue between your tools. Because you never count executions, you can happily run small, frequently firing automations too — ideal for teams that want to shed lots of repetitive manual steps.

  • Lead automation: new contacts from forms straight into your CRM and to Slack or email
  • Invoice and document workflows: parse PDFs, push data into accounting, trigger approvals
  • Data sync between shop, ERP, databases and Google Sheets
  • Monitoring & alerting: poll APIs, check thresholds, fire notifications
  • AI workflows: n8n as the orchestrator for LLM calls, embeddings and RAG pipelines

Which Cloud Server for n8n?

n8n itself is frugal. For light to moderate use — a few dozen workflows, modest trigger frequency — the Cloud Starter (1 vCPU, 2 GB, €4.90/month) with n8n and SQLite is enough. Once you move to PostgreSQL, run queue mode with several workers or serve compute-heavy nodes and many concurrent webhooks, the Cloud Standard (2 vCPU, 8 GB, €12.90/month) is the more stable base. Snapshot backups protect your workflows and credentials.

  • Full root access — n8n via Docker Compose, your own env vars and community nodes
  • KVM virtualization with fixed resource allocation, no overbooking
  • GDPR-compliant in Frankfurt, EU data residency, DPA on request
  • Local NVMe, free always-on DDoS protection, IPv4 + IPv6
  • Snapshot backups for workflows, credentials and database
  • Fixed monthly price in euros instead of billing per workflow execution
