How much server does your Nextcloud need?
Resource demand depends mostly on the number of concurrently active users, the size of your dataset and the apps you enable. Plain file storage is frugal; Nextcloud Office (Collabora), Talk video chat and full-text search need considerably more RAM and CPU. Besides memory, storage capacity for your files matters — our plans include 40, 80, 320 or 640 GB of local NVMe , which noticeably speeds up file sync and preview generation.

For most teams the Cloud Standard (2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, €12.90/month) is the right entry point — solid for 5 to 25 users with file sync, calendar and contacts. Once Nextcloud Office, Talk video chat or large photo libraries with preview generation come into play, the Cloud Performance (32 GB) is the less stressful choice, because Collabora and preview workers are RAM-hungry.
Local NVMe = fast file synchronization
File sync is inherently IOPS-intensive: many small reads and writes plus constant database queries and thumbnail generation. Local NVMe right inside the server delivers very low latency for that — unlike network storage that sends every request over the wire.
